APHRODITE AIRLINES RESIDENTIAL KITE SCHOOL, TURKISH NORTH CYPRUS
The first international, residential Kitesurf facility in CYPRUS – launched this summer!
If you are still not booked for a trip this year, why not visit the new APHRODITE AIRLINES KITE SURF SCHOOL at the fabulous Aphrodite Beachfront village in Northern Cyprus. (see www.aphroditebeachfront.com) Formally launched only this year, it has already become an international site – having hosted the RRD (Roberto Ricci Designs) annual conference last month with visitors from afar afield as Japan and Dubai loving the fabulous wind conditions and amazing scenery! For British/European passport holders there are flights available to Larnaca (S Cyprus with quick taxi over the border OR to Ercan in the North where there are no entry visa restrictions).
GREAT FOR ALL THE FAMILY! The site runs as an apart-hotel, with lots for the whole family. In addition to the Kite School, there are a range of hotel-style onsite facilities, including a shop, fine dining restaurant, spa, yoga and pilates classes, gym overlooking the sea, Jacuzzi, sauna, outdoor swimming pool, children’s pool, indoor heated pool, club house, children’s play room, bicycle and boat rentals. Your children/partner can also use all the equipment including soft SUPs for kids and adults, surfboards, trainer kites, bunshee-bunjee, skimboards, canoes and single sail fun boats. Car rental is not necessary as there’s cheap public transport available right from the resort and other attractions close by including lovely coastal fish restaurants and go-karting!
WHERE IS IT? Aphrodite Beachfront is located in the large West Coast bay of North West Cyprus (also known as the Morphou Bay) . With views to the Troodos Mountains in the South and the distant Besparmak range to the North, and located RIGHT on the beach surrounded by orange groves, it is one of the most beautiful spots in Cyprus. It is also one of the best wind condition spots in Cyprus for water sports! On the edge of the lovely traditional village of Gaziveren, seven km from the city of Guzelyurt with its shops and traditional Saturday market. Nicosia, the island’s capital, with all of its nightlife, shopping, malls and casino hotels, is 35 km/half hour drive away.
FOR SPECIALISTS – WIND, WEATHER AND WATER CONDITIONS: The wind direction is normally cross to onshore at Aphrodite and at the southern part of the bay it is constantly cross-shore. The wind is very smooth with the most consistent months being June – October, where you’ll mostly use seven to 12 metre kites. The warm season starts in May with temperatures of 20 – 25ºC / 68 – 77ºF, dropping to around 16ºC / 60ºF at night. The hottest months are July and August with a temperature range from 30 – 40ºC
/ 86 – 104ºF, and sticking around 22ºC / 72ºF at night. The water temperatures during the warm season range from 24 –29ºC / 75 – 84ºF. Winter temperatures are still respectable, at 16ºC / 61ºF.
The morning winds typically start out cross-onshore, swinging more onshore and picking up by midday. From the afternoon to sunset there are good wind-driven small to fairly large waves, depending on the wind strength. There’s another spot with constant wind where the onshore waves are a bit flatter in the southern part of the bay, a five kilometre drive away. Transportation can be arranged by the kite club at Aphrodite. If you are a student, the kite school offers a trip to this great cross-shore spot as part of the package.
HOLIDAY COSTS: There are single traveller all inclusive kitesurf packages available – call for details. For families it is best to pay by the night. Aphrodite offers two and three bedroom luxury self-catering apartments from only £75/night peak (£60/low season) sleeping 4-6 people!
