AURA: GODDESS OF THE BREEZE KITE CAMP

13 – 14th OCTOBER

WORDS – Sukie Robertson

The first of the Aura: Goddess of the Breeze Kite Camps was due to be held on the same day Storm Callum attacked the South West! A day designed to be entirely devoted to promoting women in kiteboarding, the main focus was on the progression of women who are already able to confidently ride upwind and turn.

A couple of emails later and a moderate forecast meant the day was changed from Saturday to the Sunday. This did not stop our girls all meeting on Saturday at the brilliant Pig&Olive Café for a great evening of non stop pizza.

Sunday came with a lot of rain, but sadly not much in the way of wind. As is often the way with storms, the forecast changed overnight for the worse. However, a morning of wet power kiting for our beginners and a big beach clean from our other girls kept everyone happy before the sun started shining.

Although no wind is frustrating, it is in fact the perfect time to refresh a few safety skills. The entire group worked through a couple of self rescues, each under the watchful eye of our four experienced coaches.

The group then split into smaller groups, focussing on different areas of kiting. Firstly jumps and spins, wave riding and then unhooked tricks. An awful lot was covered and all the women felt inspired, leaving with much more of an understanding of their next step in kiting.

A couple of photo shoots and costume changes later and we wrapped up the day with everyone excited to come back soon for the practical side of the day.

A huge thank you to our incredible sponsors of Aura for all of their faith and support: Ozone, Klean Kanteen, Vivida, Nalu Beads, Sun Zapper and SunGod.
