Cornish Wingtro and Wing Foil Instructor Course
With the years of technical expertise and understanding in coaching the British Kitesports Association have developed a comprehensive Wing Instructors course.
This means the UK is leading the world in developing a teaching, coaching and instructor structure to allow the sport to grow in popularity safely. This is helping new and existing watersports centres and locations promote a safe and speedy introduction to this new and exciting discipline.
Peter Stephens from Kitesurfkit based in Mylor, has been involved in many watersports locally over 3 decades and is one of the early adopters of Wing foiling. Lucky to be based in Cornwall he recognised that this longest coastline county in the UK with its amazing combined surf and maritime heritage was the perfect location to run the first UK British Kitesports Association / British Stand Up Paddle Association Wing Foiling instructors Course for 2021. So a plan was formed…
Steph Bridge from Edge Watersports also joined the course principals Andy Gratwick (BKSA manager/ Easy Riders) and Sam Ross Coaching in running the two day conversion course.
To highlight the sport’s versatility, the course used both inland and coastal locations. It was great to see many of Cornwall’s top watersports instructors particpating to attain this new qualification. Will Bennett from Atlantic Riders Kite School, Bob Warren from Roseland Paddle and Sail, Angus and Neil from the The Hoxton Special and Justin from GoSUP.
The centrally located Stithians Lake, near Redruth has already proved a popular location for beginner Wing-foil sessions so this venue was combined with the stunning coastal centre of Windsport International down at Mylor Yacht Harbour on the banks of Falmouth Harbour provided an ideal contrasting spot. Day one at Stithians Lake and the second day at Windsport Mylor.
Both offer excellent venues for teaching Wing Surf and Wing Foiling and equally for the experienced participant who wants to develop further.
Through Kitesurfkit contacts the two days also incorporated representatives from equipment suppliers of this exciting sport. Both F-One UK and Slingshot UK offered their insight and guidance as to how this sport is just exploding in popularity worldwide.
With British Kitesports delivering more instructor courses for both Wing Foiling UK and Kitesurfing across the UK in coming months it is exciting to see our existing participants and newcomers coming out of lockdown and being able to join in our sports and progress with a world leading coaching scheme in place.
