Holly and Polly represent Great Britain at the European kitesurfing championships
Event: The Kitesurf Tour Europe Finals
Location: Castelldefels, Barcelona
Date: 1st – 4th Nov
Type: Racing and freestyle
Holly Kennedy came 5th, sponsored by North, Ion, Airbound Apparel, Vexed
Polly Crathorne came 9th, sponsored by Cabrinha UK
Is this your first KTE?
Holly: Nope, I have been to three this year and one last year
Polly: This has been my first one with wind, I went to the last event in La Baule but sadly the wind didn’t show up for the freestyle!
How was it?
H: Conditions were quite good and the beach was nice and large. The set up was well organised.
P: It was so fun to see some of the other girl talent, I was impressed by the standard! I loved having my family (both sisters, mum and dad) there for support.
What was your highlight?
H: The paella! And it was a good event with lots of girls.
P: Well, there were some interesting karaoke attempts on Friday night by both the riders and some family members!!
What did you learn?
H: Kiting with the other competitors helps push your riding. Also, packing in lots of tricks is important, for this, heat practice is good.
P: The competition is a higher standard here because its the best of Europe. I learnt that anything can happen in a heat and its important to be flexible.
Some best (and slightly interesting) bits:
Our little explore around Barcelona -Holly hit the shops with Sabrina Lutz from Germany and the Crathornes mingled with the tourists in Gaudi’s Park Guell.
Oh, and the bus journey we had to catch from the airport with the gear – it involved three changes!!!
