Kitesurf Centre, Camber Sands: News
London to Paris Non Motorised 24 hr challenge
Recently the team from The Kitesurf Centre, Camber Sands took on the challenge of travelling non- motorised from London to Paris in 24 hours. The four-strong team were to cycle and kitesurf their way from London to Paris, a total of cycled 235 miles cycling and 25 miles kitesurfing.
They had a 2 week weather window and were on standby until it fortunately blew north easterly for 2 days – almost the ideal wind direction for kitesurfing across the channel and heading south after arriving on the French coast. They left Greenwich in London at 5am on 9th June and arrived in Paris at 4.30am on the 10th, with 30 minutes to spare while raising over £2,000 for The RNLI and Kent & Sussex Air Ambulance.
8 week fast track instructor course
At the beginning of June The Kitesurf Centre began an all new 8 week course aimed at taking almost complete beginners through to instructor level in powerkiting, kite buggying, kite landboarding, stand up paddleboarding and kitesurfing. There are 7 people on the course and we will run a maximum of 2 courses per year. They’re now at the half way point and all is going well. Kitesurfing is the most important sport on the course and the riding levels of each individual are improving by the day as they now move onto learning some intermediate tricks such as backrolls, front rolls and jumps. The guys are all loving it and it’s safe to say they enjoy the practical side a lot more than the classroom!
The next course is likely to be in September.
