Kiteworld # 49

Kiteworld Issue #49 comes with their free annual Travel Guide for 2011.

The fifth edition of the guide features over 40 hot (and cold – snowkite
spots) from around the world that should be on your list of possible
kiting holiday destinations this year. As usual, there’s all the basic
knowledge you need to know, plus vital local level tips and ideas that
the guide is now famous for. At 116 pages and free with the magazine,
it’s a great way to start to your dream kiting year!

In the mag…
The last few of months of 2010 produced more than their average share of
excitement. For starters it seems that the once mystical speed target of
50 knots is now a thing of the past, with Charlotte Consorti recently
passing the mark and joining the elite crew of male speed kiters now
rapidly pushing towards the 60 knot barrier. Rob Douglas now holds the
overall World Speed Sailing record over any other wind powered vessel,
with an average speed over 500 metres of 55.65 knots. They talk to him
and take a behind-the-scenes look at the Luderitz Speed event with first
time entrant, Fred Kloren from Xelerator kiteboarding.

Ben Wilson has worked hard to become one of the most solidly established
names in kitesurfing. Russell Pell and Jim Gaunt take a look at Ben’s
efforts at targeting the surf market with his new brand, Ben Wilson
Surf. On the travel front, they talk to the world’s most well-travelled
kite journalist, Udo Hoelker – the man behind the epic World Kite and
Windsurfing Guide books. Jon Modica and Corky Cullen score amazing
kiting waves in Baja, Mexico that will leave you freeing up some work
time to book a trip on a forecast and an Al Jazeera TV producer,
Steffanie Dekker, talks you through her kiting life in Qatar.

Elsewhere in the mag you’ll find reviews on the Cabrinha S-Quad and RRD
Gitana surfboards as well as the KW test team’s first review of the
F-One Bandit 4 9m. Technique-wise there are valuable features on how to
boost huge in the Motor Drive Project and we also have an intro to wave
riding – including the preparation, knowledge and tactics to stay safe
while shredding. In Sessions, there’s kiting in high heels, oh, and
Lewis jumped a bigger pier recently, too…

All that plus the usual views, news and kite schmooze
